Quite a while ago I thrifted these pillowcases at Goodwill.
I made some Martha Stewart pillowcase totes with some of them and blogged about them here and here.
Funny enough, around that same time I had big problems with a little toiletry bag made out of this book.
Yesterday I decided to combine some of those pillowcases with my fear of the book, and try another project.
I used the yellow rose pillowcase for the top of the tote, and the plaid pillowcase for the bottom and lining. It even has pockets!
I love it, love it, love it, but...
...once again the instructions were loaded with errors. If I hadn't been an experienced sewer, this would have been a very frustrating project.

That bag looks so very lovely!
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to believe that anyone would publish a book so full of errors!
Woohooo! Isn't that stunning! I'm going to the Alzheimer's thrift shop today with donations and I'm just going to have to start looking for pillowcases each time I go. :-)
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL!!! I love to quilt, okay the idea of quilting. I don't have the setup to do bed covers... so my shoulders take a beating..... but I bet I can manage to make a builted purse like this. I have enjoyed making diaper bags...now I can combine my bag making and my desire to quilt! Thanks for the encouragement!
ReplyDeleteIt's really pretty. The quilting you did is perfect for the fabric.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful bag!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely bag. What a shame of the book, but it shows your skills!

ReplyDeleteit is GREAT! I love how the yellow bias tape on the top gives it a punch of color. I am definitely going to try something like this. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hi Anina,
ReplyDeleteYummilicious bag, looks like loads of work went into it.
If you have a few spare moments and it’s you’re kinda thing you’ve been tagged here http://u-handbag.typepad.com/uhandblog/2007/08/8-im-it.html
Hope you can play!
Beautiful quilting on your bag. Very vintage looking, it reminds me of an old quilt. The yellow is fun for summer.
ReplyDeletewonderful quilting! and i love the pillow case!
ReplyDeleteThe bag is fantastic! I am about to embark on my first ever sewing project when my fabric arrives from the States! I asked my mum last night if she would help me out!! I got some great fabric that is just perfect for a friend and really want to make something for her!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby works for the local Goodwill, (VP of Info. Services) so I sent him this link to show what people can do with Goodwill stuff. He loved it and so do I!
ReplyDeleteIt actually encourages me to hear that sewing instructions can be flawed... not being as experienced, I always assumed it was Me. Now when I am hopelessly confused, I will point the finger at Them! lol.
ReplyDeleteYour pillowcase bag is wonderful... wonder what I could make from my thriftshop cases...
