A short post today. Pizza lunch at the school. 13 cases of water in the back of my car. 55 pizzas. 400 napkins. Priceless.

The little cardigan is almost done. I had BIG problems setting in the sleeves. Any advice out there?

(Thanks for all the wristlet and emergency bag love!)

Correction: it was 90 pizzas!

  2. The sweater looks fabulous. And 55 pizzas, wow, that's a lot.

  3. I don't think I've commented before - your blog is a new read for me!
Anyway, are the side, shoulder, and sleeve seams sewn up before you sew in the sleeve? I did a sweater that way and I pinned the sleeves and then basted them i with crochet thread - then I sewed them. I approached it kind of like a fabric sewing project - turned the body inside out and the sleeve right side out inside it. Hope that makes sense!

  4. Let me rephrase - I pinned the sleeve to the sweater and then basted it, etc.

  5. Busy girl you are today with all the school pizza lunch load in your car.

I cannot help you with the cardigan as I suspect I shall never advance past knitted washcloths and scarves. However, there's nothing preventing me from admiring your work--I love the cables and design in your cardigan project.

  6. the cardigan is gorgeous. i think bridget's idea would work. or i have always sewn the shoulder seam and then centered the sleeve in the sleeve spot, sewn it in then sewn up the side of the sweater and down the arm....if that makes sense.

  7. I always sew the shoulders together first, than the sides. Then you close the sleeves and put the sweather inside out, the sleeves with the right sides out, then you pin the seam of the sleeve against the seam of the sweater (take care with left and right sides of the sweater and the left and right sleeves), then pin the middle of the sleeve to the shoulderseam, devide the remainings parts of the sleeve to the sweater. I always pin first, then I take lace cotton and before sewing permanently with the yearn I turn everything inside out and look if it fits (my gosh, in Dutch it seems to be much easier!)

  8. That is a lot of pizza! I have never knit a cardigan, so I can't be much help:)

  9. That is a lovely sweater part... anxious to see it all together. I knit... but just scarves, mittens, and hats... easy stuff that doesn't show mistakes.

I love your camera case... good idea!

  10. for setting in sleeves, i highly recommend using a slip-stitch seam, and doing what an earlier commenter said - treating it like a sewing project and pinning the sleeve in first. i've made a number of sweaters, and only one (so far) with the slip-stitch seam - but it was a _total_ revelation. anyway, good luck!
