On a very rare occasion I make something that takes even my breath away. This is one of those things. While I can't take credit for the pattern (which is really the source of all this beauty), I did spend countless hours working on this project and it always brings a smile to my face.
I'm so happy to have people to share it with this year. Please click on the pictures to see more details. Cross stitch is notoriously difficult to take photos of, especially when it's behind glass.

ReplyDeleteHow many strands of embroidery thread do you use when doing cross stitch? I always seem to have some of the white showing through on the few I've tried.
lil d: For this project I used two strands but the stitches are tiny because the fabric count is really large, I think it was 18 count. If you have a smaller count fabric (i.e. bigger squares) you may want to experiment, but I've never used more than 3 strands.

I've done just enough counted cross stitch to know what it took to complete this. It's absolutely spectacular, a beautiful heirloom. I hope you have it hanging all year long!

ReplyDeleteHe's wonderful! I can certainly appreciate the work that went into it. I collect Santas and have several Santa cross stitch patterns. I made one so far on my son's Christmas stocking. I have so many more of them I could do, but haven't been doing much cross stitch lately. You may start a new trend!

ReplyDeleteHey, I have that picture, nice job! My mom made it for me, I still need to get it framed. I also have the blue one, that one is framed, and I have him out all year round, since I'm a huge Santa collector. I guess there was a green one in the trio, but that company never made it into a kit. Too bad.

ReplyDeleteAlmost 30 years ago, I worked over a two-year period to complete a Christmas counted xstitch. After it was finished, I put it away for another 20 years because I didn't trust anyone to block it. I finally bit the bullet, had it blocked and framed. It hangs in my bedroom year around. Your work is beautiful, and shouldn't be hidden 11 months out of the year.
