Wild Thing

It's my first twin sized quilt.
A gift.
Pretty wild but I like it.
It's big - 72" x 90".
I'm not sure I have a big enough space to pin this.

  1. I am having the same problem. I have to get everything off the floor and the floor vacuumed at the perfect time to pin the quilt before someone walks on it!!! Not happened even though I have been waiting for the opportunity for a week!!!!

I guess there are worse problems, but it is a little frustrating! LOL!

  3. What a colorful pretty quilt.
it is always hard to find a space big enough, I just had that problem when I was laying backing and batting down to measure and make sure all was even before putting on my 3 roller - I'm glad I didn't have to baste it all as well.

  4. Oh, that is very cool! I especially love the colors. What a fun project to work on. With that size, I can't imagine where I would baste it or quilt it - good luck!

  5. Beautiful quilt!! I am a big fan of blues!! See if you church or local community center has large tables you can use. Even a local quilt shop may let you come in and do it during their open sew time.

Good luck!! I can't wait to see it.

  6. The black and white polka dots really "rock" that quilt! It's going to make someone very happy.

  7. I really love the colours in this quilt...and the balance of solids and prints is just perfect!

Someone else mentioned this...our quilt shop offers time you can book their classroom tables to pin baste, too.

  9. Such great colors and prints! I love it!!!

With the last big quilt I did (it was a queen), I had to pin in stages since I couldn't find a space big enough. I think it helps though that I do all my basting on carpet-- so I use heavy upholstery pins to secure my backing to the floor, and can un-pin, move, and re-pin if needed (but it is still a big pain in the patootie!).

  11. Oh wow! So nice!!

And yes, I have to move furniture when I baste something this big. I'll start dragging the coffee table away and my husband's like "oh. It's a big one, huh?"

  14. Sharon schamber (sp??) has a video somewhere that shows her basting a top using flat boards? that she rolled each part of the quilt on and then basted it on a small surface. I'd look at her website or on u-tube.

  15. Lovely! Basting large quilts is made more difficult for me because my cats think it's an invitation to come jump on the quilt lol So I have to pin, yell, pin, yell... so fun.

  18. I have two large folding tables from walmart and some pretty hefty clamps. I put the two tables together and pin that way. If I cant get it all on I do the center and then move the clamps and do each edge. I cannot crawl aroud on the floor to pin a quilt. Off to pin one right now.

  19. I tape my backing to the wall (after I remove the pictures) with painter's tape. Then I spray baste the batting, then spray baste the top to the batting.

Then I run my hands all over the quilt to smooth. Then I pin baste and/or use a needle and loonnnnnngg basting stitches very quickly.

Gives new meaning to "wall quilt!"

  20. I LOVE that!
I baste on the boardroom tables at work, but some of the LQS let you use their tables if there are no classes going on. What about a church or community hall?
