To save my sanity, today is not Win-some Wednesday. I have to catch up first.
I constructed a make-shift design wall yesterday. I truly need to figure out a more permanent solution. Ideas anyone?
Anyhow. All the blocks are made and up on the wall. I took this photo at 7am, so it's a little dark.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks. I use a flannel covered 4 x 8 sheet of styrofoam. Works like a charm.

ReplyDeleteA permanent design wall. I use some panthangers and a piece of molton.
I guess you will need some space for that a permanent wall. I’ve seen solme softboard walls, covered up with molton or a light coloured cotton, placed in front of a wall or closet.
like Caro said I have heard a lot of people talk of the flannel cover insulation boards. I have seriously been giving it some thought, I wouldn't be able to leave them out all them time and would have to figure out how to store when not in use, but they sure would be handy.

ReplyDeleteI just improved my "design wall". I'd call it a portable model, it can be taken down if I absolutely have to. I bought a bamboo Roman shade on clearance (whee...five bucks!) and used Aleene's spray tacky glue to attach flannel to it. Now, my "wall" is hanging up in my basement room without benefit of an actual wall to lean against. Flannel worked ok, but the blocks' grip would loosen and it looked shaky. I found out accidentally that poly fleece works better! So I pulled off the flannel and glued on the fleece instead. And it's working great! The fleece is the stuff that Jo-Ann's puts on sale half price all the time. I can send you a photo of it if you'd like.
The block looks stunning. I'm anxious to see it put together.

ReplyDeleteThere are many, many ideas for design walls out there. I made one not too long ago when I need it to be 1) somewhat portable and 2) frugal.

ReplyDeleteMy design wall has been up for a few years now and it's simply (thrifted) flannel backed plastic tablecloths turned backwards and tacked to the wall. I think they are usually only about $3 at Walmart. I think I paid 50 cents.
The only thing that threatened to take it down was our cat (before he got declawed). He would literally climb to the ceiling and tear holes in it.
It's looking gorgeous Anina! I just have a plastic tablecloth tacked to the wall backwards. I see the last commenter Lisa said this too!

ReplyDeleteOh, *like* doesn't even begin to describe how I feel about this quilt-to-be! Fantastic. And my favorite quilts are the ones that mix applique with piecing. So great!
ReplyDeleteThe blocks are absolutely beautiful! As for a design wall - I use a sheet of insulation board (1" wide) (you can purchase at any home improvement center) - covered with flannel. It's very lightweight so you can move it out of the way and/or closer to the machine when you're ready to piece!
