My Quilt Festival Entry

As soon as I signed up for the Bloggers Quilt Festival, I knew which quilt I would enter in the show.

Way back in March 2008 I was a "pattern quilter". All my quilts were made by buying a pattern, then fabric, and making a quilt.

Until this one.

After a year in the wonderfully inspirational Land of Blog, I was ready to go out on a limb. It was scary. What if I wasted all this fabric and hated the result?
But I jumped in anyway.
I cut into my precious fabric.

I made a few blocks.

And then some more.
The "Winging It" quilt was born. The quilt that gave me the freedom to play with fabric with (somewhat) wild abandon.
"Winging it"

"Winging it" - quilt back

Since then I've made many more improvisational quilts, some if which have turned into patterns of their very own.

  52. this is such a pretty quilt!! i love all the white and green, and wonky strips!! just love it!!

  53. I feel your (former) pain. It's so hard for me to cut angles that aren't right angles, strips that aren't perfectly straight. For years I've tried to match points and seams perfectly, and it drove me to distraction--and sometimes to great frustration! I'm taking part in Project Improv and trying to fight my programming to do everything straight and perfectly. It's hard to deprogram yourself, isn't it? You're something of a role model to me. :)

  61. I love this quilt! Blogland has inspired me too. I've been going through all the kits in my closet and getting them done so I can move on to try some improvising of my own. I've made one improvisational quilt and it was so much fun. It's nice to hear other's stories of diving in. I'm so glad I found your blog. It's going on my follow list. You have such wonderful ideas and great quilts.
